Sunset Boat Party with DJ and Open Bar: What to Expect on Board
Updated September 17, 2026 · 8 min read
The single most-booked boat in Lisbon is not a sightseeing cruise. It is a two-hour party with a DJ and an open bar, it costs €21, and it carries 13,906 reviews at 4.5 stars – more than twice as many as any other boat in our stock of 122. That makes it the most reliable data point on the Tagus, and it also makes it the most commonly misunderstood booking in the city.
People book it expecting a cruise with music. It is closer to a club that happens to float.
What is actually included – and the one line that ends the discussion
The operator, Stern Wind Cruises, lists the inclusions plainly: an open bar with white wine, beer, sangria and soft drinks, a DJ, a bathroom on board, and a life jacket. Hotel pickup and drop-off is listed under not included – you make your own way to the terminal. Two hours, departing at the golden hour, past Praça do Comércio, the Ponte 25 de Abril, Cristo Rei and the Torre de Belém.
Then there is the list of people for whom the operator states the activity is not suitable, and the last entry on it is the one that catches families out:
Pregnant women · people with mobility impairments · wheelchair users · children under 18 years
It is the sharpest age statement on this river, and it is in the operator’s own conditions. Whether anyone checks ID at the counter is not stated there, and we will not claim it is. For a family with teenagers it still means this: do not plan on this boat – and by that line a seventeen-year-old is still a child. If you are travelling with children and you want the sunset on the water, that means a different boat entirely; the age limits and equipment on the family-friendly boats are a separate question with a much better answer.
There is also a short list of things the operator does not allow on board: intoxication at boarding, your own food, your own alcohol, nudity and see-through clothing. Only cigarettes and vapes are permitted for smoking. None of that is unusual for a licensed party boat. It is worth knowing before you arrive dressed for a beach club.
The costs that are not the ticket price
- A boarding tax of €1.30 per passenger, charged to everyone at check-in. Not in the €21.
- Arrive 30 to 40 minutes before departure. The operator asks for this to get through the ticket booth queue. A two-hour boat is a three-hour evening.
- After the 24-hour window, changes cost €15 per ticket, payable at check-in. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before; after that you are rebooking, not refunding.
- No large suitcases on board. Small backpacks are fine. The operator points to the paid luggage lockers around Cais do Sodré and Terreiro do Paço – useful if this is your last evening before a night flight, which for a lot of people it is.
You also agree, by buying a ticket, that you may be photographed or filmed for the company’s own promotion. If that is not for you, the operator asks that you tell the staff at the time.
Where it leaves from
The Estação Fluvial Sul e Sueste, the old ferry hall at the eastern end of Praça do Comércio. That is a genuine advantage over most of the city’s sunset boats: it is in Baixa, it is flat, and it is on the metro. The sailing yachts board at Belém, seven kilometres west, and the quieter motor boats at Doca de Santo Amaro under the bridge – both of which add half an hour each way. For a party that starts before the boat does, boarding in the middle of town matters.
The party boats compared – and a pattern worth seeing
| Boat | Duration | From | Reviews | Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sunset boat party with DJ and open bar | 2 hours | €21 | 13,906 | 4.5 |
| Disco night cruise with DJ and open bar | 2 hours | €29 | 477 | 4.5 |
| Sunset DJ party cruise with pizza and drinks | 2 hours | €35 | 342 | 4.5 |
| Boat party with open bar, music and swimming stops | 3 hours | €35 | 116 | 4.4 |
| Sightseeing cruise with swim stop, drinks and music | 3 hours | €18 | 4,730 | 3.8 |
| Sunset boat party with music and drinks | 4 hours | €40 | 236 | 4.5 |
| Sunset boat party with 2 drinks and free club entry | 4 hours | €45 | 93 | 3.9 |
The two-hour boats hold 4.5 stars. The two lowest-rated party boats in the list are both longer ones – the three-hour swim-stop cruise at 3.8 and the four-hour club-entry boat at 3.9 – and between them they carry more reviews than every other entry except the leader. That is not proof that length ruins a party boat, but it is a consistent enough signal to act on: two hours on a crowded deck with a free bar is a good evening, and four hours on the same deck is a long time.
The prices tell the same story from the other side. Going from €21 to €45 does not buy you a better boat. It buys you more hours, a slice of pizza, or a wristband for a club you could have walked into.
Read the words “open bar” carefully
They do not all mean the same thing, and the difference is not hidden – it is just easy to skim past.
The leading boat’s open bar runs for the whole two hours, and the drinks list is specific: white wine, beer, sangria, soft drinks. The three-hour boat party with swimming stops states one hour of open bar inside a three-hour trip. The €45 four-hour boat includes two drinks, not a bar. Same section of the same category, three completely different products.
If the free bar is the reason you are booking, that is the line to check before the price. We go through the drink inclusions across the whole river category in what a welcome drink and an open bar actually cover.
If this is not your crowd
Plenty of people want the golden hour on the Tagus and do not want a DJ. The good news is that this is the best-supplied wish in the city.
- The sunset catamaran with a welcome drink – 1 h 30, €28, 4.7 across 3,517 reviews – sells the nets on the bow, not the speakers.
- The historic wooden Barco EVORA – two hours, €20, 4.6 across 4,227 – has music and one welcome drink, and costs a euro or so less than the party.
- A sailing boat turns the engine off altogether. Whether you want a yacht or a catamaran for that is a real decision with real trade-offs.
And if you want the noise but on land, the city has no shortage – our things to do in Lisbon page carries the pub crawls and club nights, which cost less than a boat and do not leave the quay on a schedule.
Who it is genuinely right for
A group of adults, in the evening, who want a start to the night rather than a view they will remember in detail. Among the boat parties in our catalogue it is the cheapest two hours of open bar, the boarding point is in the middle of town, and for €21 plus €1.30 it is hard to argue with. Just book it for what it is: not a cruise with a bar attached, but a bar that casts off at sunset.
The whole river category, with current prices and availability, is on our Lisbon boat tours page. Inclusions, minimum ages and taxes are the operator’s own and are the ones shown on the booking page when you book.
